Group Sale and 2009 Chancel Choir Tour

It is an exciting time of the year for the Chancel (high school) choir, and if you’ve been in worship over the past few weeks, you undoubtedly felt the excitement! It’s time again for the annual 2PC Group Sale on Saturday, May 2, from 8am to 2pm at the Sale Barn in Bloomington.

The Group Sale is a wonderful event in the life of our church as it reflects so many of the core values of our community. It reminds us of our commitment to the 2PC youth choirs of all ages. As a church we come together for this event to support the Chancel Choir tour and provide the means for the students to experience the culmination of their year in choir. The Group Sale also reflects our commitment to excellence in worship leadership as the choir tour provides the opportunity for our students to share with others the gifts and musical talents they have been given by God. And finally, the Group Sale is an opportunity for our church to be a blessing across the country by sending our students on a music mission tour that brings hope to many and shares the love of Christ with all who hear the concerts or meet our students.

This year the tour travels north. The choir will depart on June 12 and travel first to Minnesota, then through Wisconsin, followed by time spent in the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. They will then have a closing weekend in Chicago, and finally return back home to Bloomington on June 21 for the homecoming concert at 7pm that evening. In addition to this, they will sing for the children’s ward at Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis, visit Mackinac Island, complete service work in Michigan, sing the national anthem for a minor league baseball team and have time for fellowship in Chicago.

Given that the Group Sale is an incredible production, please allow me to share a few final details. Starting Monday, April 27th, and continuing through Thursday, April 30th, donations for the sale will be accepted at the Sale Barn from 9am to 8pm. On Friday May 1, we need a LARGE group of workers for a full day of final preparations and pricing. If you are interested in serving in one of the many roles available this week, please visit the Group Sale tables after the service today to sign up. There are roles for people of all ages, strength, and ability, and many people will be needed to help the “Parking Team” on Saturday! Please contact Cheryl Chrisman at 309.378.4562 or visit www.secondpres.info for more information.

Children and Youth Summer Camps

Summer camp is one of the great opportunities that 2PC has to offer children and youth. Our summer programs are amazing opportunities for children and youth to grow in their faith and become more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

This is achieved by age appropriate discipleship efforts and fellowship with their friends. In plain terms, attending a week of 2PC summer camp will be the highlight of the summer for the children and youth for their faith and life in general. Many children and youth later speak of camp as being the time and place where their faith comes alive and becomes an integral part of their identity.

At Children’s Day Camp and Children’s Overnight Camp, activities include swimming, fishing, paddle boating, campfires, playing capture the flag and eating camp food. Every day also includes worship and faith-based learning. Or, if you’re in jr. high, maybe you love great worship music, terrific speakers, wonderful small group time and endless hours of amazing games? If yes, then come to junior high camp (The Great Escape) this summer. If you are a high school student, we look forward to having you join us for summer camp in 2010 as registration has closed for 2009.

•Love Thy Neighbor Concert (5/3)

Habitat for Humanity of McLean County is excited to present the 12th annual Love Thy Neighbor choir concert. This concert is one of Habitat for Humanity’s main fundraising events, and in the past has raised enough money to build four homes in our community.
Held on May 3 from 3-4:30pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the concert features members from choirs throughout the community joining together to form one large community choir in support of Habitat for Humanity. For more information and ticket prices, please visit www.habitatmclean.org.

•Serving on Saturday (5/9)
